Whether in online shops or at our trusted retailers, we can find a women's or men's department everywhere. Why does the fashion industry still cling so strongly to the binary gender system and why is it so easy for us to classify fashion by gender? The relative concept of femininity and masculinity is being questioned more and more frequently, but the mainstream is still unable to cross the line between women's and men's departments. We are discussing this today with our guest Jannes Lüdtke. He is studying product design at the Kassel Art Academy and founded the joint studio AMJL with his partner Abdalla Mohammed in 2019. The two test the boundaries between disciplines with artistic, practical, theoretical and socio-political projects and try to advance the design discourse in an academic context.
